Using the NAVIGATION BAR on the right of each page, you can access the different parts of this site. Composers are listed in alphabetical order rather than order of period. However, we have provided dates and styles (eg. 1882 - 1955, Serial and neo classical) for each composer, if you're specifically interested in certain styles and periods.

These essays are simply based around works by these composers, which are found on each composer's page. They are not intended for use as assignment essays for people to copy, but for background knowledge that may help students with their own work, with a few of our own ideas thrown in! The essays are also intended for general interest, and for this reason, we have avoided making them too exhaustive.

Unfortunately, due to copyright restrictions we are unable to provide clips of performances. However, the Classical Music Archives is an excellent website for free MIDI and sound files. You can download 5 files a day free, or pay a small yearly fee to access several thousand files a month. This site can be found at http://www.classicalarchives.com/. Where possible, we will also provide details of where abouts in a work we are referring too, but it is hard to give exact times, as different recordings and performances play at different speeds.

We are also looking for essay contibutions by visitors to the site to broaden the collection for other visitors. These would be placed on a separate page and you will receive full credit for them. Details about how to submit these are given on the guest essays page.

If you want to contact us at any point, you can email us at cmusicessays@yahoo.co.uk, and we will try to reply as soon as possible.

We hope you enjoy reading the essays, and that you go away thinking about your favourite pieces of music differently that when you arrived!
